Renowned Swedish choreographer Fredrik “Benke” Rydman performed a delicate duet with the IRB 6620, a 900kg industrial robot from ABB in the premiere at Kulturhuset Stadsteatern, Stockholm, of a groundbreaking new work on September 7, 2018.

“We are stepping into a future where robots and artificial intelligence will be a part of our life. I think it is interesting to see how we will deal with that,” says choreographer and dancer Fredrik Benke Rydman.

The performance is a powerful reflection of the changing role of technology, automation and artificial intelligence in society and the advanced, collaborative interactions now possible between humans and robots. The premiere received a standing ovation.

The video below takes us behind the scene and shows how the rehearsals paved way to the performance.
