Somnox är världens första sömnrobot. Den ser ut som en blandning mellan en kudde och en böna. Med hjälp av ljud, ljus och en simulerad mänsklig andningsrytm hjälper sömnroboten användaren att somna.

Success for sleep robot

The Somnox sleep support robot is innovative, addresses an important problem in society, is close to commercialization, and has a plausible scientific support for solving the problem adressed.

The sleep robot Somnox is a unique device that improves sleep by breathing regulation, sounds, and affection.

One out of five people in the world suffer from sleep deprivation. The Dutch start-up Somnox introduced the world’s first sleep robot to start a global sleep revolution. The device improves sleep by soothing body and mind, reducing stress and anxiety so people fall asleep faster, sleep deeper, and wake up feeling refreshed.

The sleep robot is since mid November available for pre-order on Kickstarter. And what a success that is! After only 4 days Somnox reached the goal of €100,000 and are currently overfunded.

We aim to be pioneers in the future of sleep

Robotdalen Innovation Award 2017

Earlier this year the sleep support robot, created by a Dutch team, was appointed winner of the Robotdalen Innovation Award 2017.

By winning the Robotdalen Innovation Award 2017, Somnox receives a sum of SEK 150,000 (approximately €11,000) where SEK 50,000 is prize money and SEK 100,000 is offered to be used to develop the concept in cooperation with Robotdalen. The internationally oriented competition is directed at innovators, entrepreneurs, graduate and postgraduate students from all over the world who have ideas, concepts or solutions with commercial potential and breakthrough technology, addressing certain fields of robotics and automation.

This robotized product, which is the first non-medical solution for sleep support, is in line with our focus on new technical solutions for health care and comply with our efforts to develop what we call Technology for Independent Life, says Peter Stany, Innovation Driver at Robotdalen.

Anti-addictive natural sleep revolution

“We’ve been personally exposed to the effects of sleep deprivation.” says Somnox co-founder Julian Jagtenberg. “That’s why we founded Somnox. Rather than reaching for addictive medication, we wanted to offer a natural approach on improving sleep.”

Breathing robot

The Somnox sleep robot simulates human breathing. Its users will subconsciously adjust its breathing rhythm to that of the sleep robot. Research has shown that breathing is essential to naturally reduce stress and increase relaxation. In addition to breathing, the sleep robot provides its user with audio. The sounds of heartbeats, lullabies, guided meditation – or uploading personal audio files – are included in the accompanying app, which is available on both iPhone and Android smartphones.

Personal preferences can be set during the day and ensure a tailored approach to improve sleep during the night.

After 24 months of research and development, Somnox received feedback of over 5000 people, resulting in hundreds of prototype iterations. To ensure the best product possible, Somnox carried out 57 intensive sleep trajectories with selected test sleepers.
